BMW Z4 E89 Wiper Blade Replacement (2009-2016)
The BMW Z4 E89, produced from 2009 to 2016, is a popular sports car known for its sleek design and performance. Maintaining this vehicle includes ensuring its windshield wipers function effectively for optimal visibility during inclement weather. Replacing the wiper blades on the Z4 E89 is a relatively straightforward procedure that can be completed in less than an hour using the appropriate tools and parts.
Materials Required
New BMW Z4 E89 wiper blades (two)
Socket wrench or ratchet with 13mm socket
Clean rags or paper towels
Glass cleaner
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Safety Precautions
Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
Turn off the ignition and remove the ignition key.
2. Locate the Wiper Arms
The Z4 E89 has two wiper arms, one on the driver's side and one on the passenger side.
3. Raise the Wiper Arms
With the ignition off, push the stalk on the steering column forward to activate the wipers.
Once the wipers have reached their peak position, turn off the ignition and remove the key.
4. Remove the Old Wiper Blades
Locate the plastic cap on the end of the wiper arm where the blade attaches.
Using a socket wrench or ratchet with a 13mm socket, carefully loosen the bolt that holds the wiper blade in place.
Gently pull the old wiper blade straight out from the wiper arm.
5. Clean the Wiper Arms (Optional)
While the old blades are removed, use a clean rag or paper towel dampened with glass cleaner to wipe down the wiper arms. This removes any dirt or debris that may impair the performance of the new blades.
6. Install the New Wiper Blades
Align the new wiper blade with the wiper arm.
Push the blade firmly onto the arm until you hear it click into place.
Tighten the bolt using the socket wrench or ratchet. Ensure it is snug but avoid overtightening.
7. Repeat for Other Side
Repeat steps 4-6 for the other side of the vehicle.
8. Lower the Wiper Arms
Once both new wiper blades are installed, lightly pull the wiper arms down towards the windshield. They should snap back into their resting position.
9. Test the Wipers
Start the vehicle and turn on the wipers. Verify that they operate smoothly and effectively.
